Outstanding 1870's earrings and watch pin set with birds in three colors of 14K gold by N.G. Wood & Son, Boston, Massachusetts, includes its original fitted box with easel bottom and a charming note reading, "Minnie's Wedding Set Friends Day gave her." This wonderful suite of antique gold jewelry is superbly crafted, each piece with a beaded oval frame around a highly three-dimensional vignette of a bird with open wings on a leafy branch with vines and leaves in the background. The detail is exquisite and fine and truly appreciated only under magnification. The earrings have tablet-tops with full-width hinges suspending the oval dangles, and the watch pin has a lovely and rhythmic array of rosettes, twisted wire, granules and applied cylinders in rose and yellow gold. The earrings retain their original kidney wires and the pin its original tube hinge, watch-hook and "honey-dipper" clasp. Beautifully displayed in a black and burgundy leather box, the red silk pillow is trimmed in white, has a bendable tab for the watch pin, holes for the earring wires and an easel back to display the suite. A white silk banner across the inside of the lid is embossed in gold, "N.G. Wood & Son, Boston, Mass," and the jewelry is in excellent antique condition, the earrings measuring 1 1/4-inches long overall x 5/8-inches wide and weighing 7.3 grams total, the pin measuring 2 1/2 x 15/16-inches and weighing 10.1 grams, and the box, which has some minor scuffs and fading, measuring 3 3/4 x 5 1/8-inches.
