1970's Beaded silk chiffon evening dress by James Galanos. Galanos was one of the mid-20th Century's most highly respected and important designers. Known for his boldly patterned chiffon evening gowns, Galanos dressed Marlene Dietrich, Judy Garland and Dorothy Lamour among others, and made Nancy Reagan's gowns for her husband's gubernatorial and presidential inaugurations. This superb creation in plaid silk chiffon features a draped bodice, the torso covered in icy bugle beads with sheer, single layer sleeves and button cuffs. The entire waist is gathered into silhouette-defining tucks that release to a pleated and layered skirt of tremendous volume and a lively character. There is a rolled edge at the neckline, snaps and hooks closing the waist and the dress is in excellent vintage condition with a couple of slightly discolored beads, very strong and ready to wear, measures 56-inches long with an unexpanded 38 bust, 28 waist, 38 hip and 22 1/2-inch sleeve.
