1940's black rayon kimono robe with opulent embroidered embellishments including chrysanthemums with very long trailing vines on each side in front and an opulent peacock in a field of chrysanthemums covering most of the back. The silver metallic embroidery is couched with tiny red threads, the peacock's blue and yellow feather "eyes" are satin stitch embroidered and many parts of the peacock's body and wings are padded with twisted paper cord beneath the heavy silver threads. True to its kimono style, the voluminous arms are open underneath and the robe is very full and flowing. There is a white rayon lining and the robe is in very good uncleaned vintage condition with a pale 8 x 10-inch spot on the lining and an occasional misplaced embroidery thread, measures 54-inches long with 22-inch sleeves measured from the collar, 54-inches at the chest/bust and 58-inches around the hemline.
