Fine Antique Honey Silk Maltese Bobbin Lace Bertha / Collar

Fine 19th Century Maltese bobbin lace bertha with the lace's characteristic Maltese crosses and overlapping wheatears in honey-colored silk threads. This bertha has two stylized versions of the Maltese cross in finely worked linen stitch, beautiful clusters of wheatears scattered throughout, braided bridges, checkerboard-like backgrounds and a wonderfully shaped lower edge. A museum deaccession, the bertha is loosely basted to an old piece of tissue with a card identifying the lace and, I assume, the donor's name. In excellent antique condition, measures 23-inches in diameter, 5 1/4-inches wide and approximately 56-inches long.
