Glowing 1960's Malcolm Starr Cocktail Dress & Coat Ensemble

Classic 1960's sleeveless cocktail dress and coat ensemble by Malcolm Starr in glowing gold and silver lame' brocade. Both pieces are tailored for a true minimalist aesthetic that relies on opulent textiles, strong but subtle design devices and a deceptive intricacy of construction to achieve an understated elegance. The dress has a simple "V" cut into the front yoke with a seven-panel skirt finishing the 1960's version of an a-line silhouette. There are two slash pockets concealed in the front panel's seams, a green Talon zipper closing the back, a lime green lining and Malcolm Starr, ladies' garment worker's union and order number labels. The coat has a Nehru collar, button closures covered in aurora borealis rhinestone buttons, an inverted box or expansion pleat from waist-to-hemline in back, two slash pockets and a matching lime green lining with a Lord & Taylor's retailer's label. The textile is very textural and rich, the intricate abstract pattern in gold and silver metallic threads and pale green threads that create an impression of two colors of gold with silver and both pieces are in excellent uncleaned vintage condition, ready to wear with some light marks on the coat's lining. The coat measures 39-inches long with a 40 bust, 36 waist and 66-inch sweep and the dress measures 38-inches long with a 36 bust, 32 waist and 56-inch sweep around the hemline.
