Couture quality circa 1920 evening gown features a panné velvet and gold metallic lace dress with lamé underdress and beautiful metallic and silk velvet rose embellishments. This exceptional gown vigorously embodies the opulence of the teens and 20's fashion aesthetic in its luscious gold and silk textiles and its lavish embellishments. The sleeveless gown has buttery panné velvet wrapping the torso with a piped seam separating the tailored bodice panel from the gathered upper skirt panel. Gold metallic lace finishes the upper bodice with substantial shoulder straps and there is a wide, matching lace panel at the bottom of the skirt. One hip has a dense, dramatic cluster of black silk velvet ribbons and gold metallic rosebuds with various lengths of the ribbon trailing down the skirt and ending in more of the charming gold metallic rosebuds - very elegant. The rich lamè underdress has a metallic lace panel at the hemline and is covered with black silk velvet florets and lame' florets with black silk velvet bows that wink coyly from under the lace, a subtle detail that speaks to the quality and refinement of the dress and the lush imagination of its creator. The metallics have achieved a lovely warm patina and the gown is in excellent uncleaned vintage condition, very strong and wearable with a couple of small breaks in the lace at the back of the neckline needing only a few reinforcement stitches and there is some minor tarnish. Both pieces close with hooks-and-eyes on one side and the gown measures 53-inches long in back and 50-inches long in front with a 36 bust, 32 waist and 36 hip.
