1920's black silk chiffon evening dress with dramatic and imaginative construction details lavishly embellished with a hand-beaded pattern of stylized flowers in rich red, gold and charcoal glass beads. The silhouette, from the romantic drape of the voluminous angel sleeves to the flirty six-panel skirt, is languid and elegant. The long cap sleeves are completely open on the body-side with the exception of a single cluster of stitches at the inside of the upper arm creating the wonderful shape and flow. The skirt, presumably with an eye towards effect on the dance floor, has six slits that just about reach the top of the leg. A well-conceived beaded pattern features undulating lines of colorful beads applied in varying widths for lots of inherent movement and rhythm. The dress closes with a single hook-and-eye in back and is in very good vintage condition, strong and wearable with a scattering of approximately 1/2 dozen pinholes on the lower skirt, a few loose beads and one of the skirt slits has been subtly reinforced at the very top. Several other slits are frayed in the same place due to the weight of the beads, and a few stitches at the top of each slit would avoid future problems. Measures 48-inches long with a 40 bust and 28-inch sleeve, long as they are made to drape over the hand. The skirt's slits are 24-inches long and create six 8 1/2-inch wide panels.
