1940s Vintage Black & Copper Beaded Hat Box Purse
This a truly fantastic example of the box purses that became all the rage during the early 1940s owing to the wartime shortage of metals for purse frames.
Condition is quite good overall with no bead loss and it has retained it's shape perfectly. The handles show the most wear with uneven coloring among the silver and copper beads. The handles are secured but the stitches and fabric ends are exposed making me think these were reattached at some point. As is, the purse is usable and I don't feel this is an eye-popping issue however you may wish to have these repaired.
The grosgrain tab connecting the lid has also been visibly restitched. The satin lining is intact but has come unattached along the bottom leaving an area of glue residue exposed. Given the bag's depth, this is not easily seen and the lining can be folded over. There are a couple of faint white lines otherwise the lining is clean and the mirror is mostly clear with some small scuffs showing.
Measurements: 5 7/8" diameter at top x 6" high - Handles: 8 1/2" carrying length and 1" wide
