I have for your consideration a marvelous Limoges ferner bearing the Limoges France mark 5 (circa 1891) and signed by the artist "HM". The ferner is of substantial size and measures 9" across, 5-1/2" tall, with a circumference of a staggering 32".
The ferner sits on four elaborately scrolled feet painted predominantly in greens, reds, oranges and purples, with a splash of blue. The bowl of the ferner is handpainted mottled shades of green, blue, yellow and a touch of burnt sienna. The handpainted roses are delightful and appear in shades of pinks, yellows and white. The lush greenery trails around the bowl and adds depth and texture.
The rim of the ferner s nicely scalloped and is handpainted gold. The inside of the bowl is painted a soothing soft green.
The ferner is in excellent condition for its age. It does have a slight chip to the underside of one of the feet which cannot be seen when resting on its feet. The inside of the bowl does show very minor, gentle wear. A small piece of styrofoam was affixed to the middle of the bowl I presume to prevent scraping and water damage.
The ferner is beautiful and displays exquisitely. It would go wonderfully in any collection of Limoges or other rose filled porcelain.
