Lenox Belleek Large Flared Vase Roses Signed G. Morley

I have for your consideration a lovely Lenox Belleek large flared vase bearing Mark 16 (circa 1930). This wonderful specimen is signed by the highly regarded and renowned listed factory artist, G. Morley. George Morley was the nephew of William Morley, regarded by most as the best artist at Lenox. He went to Lenox with his uncle in 1900 and left the company around 1903. He returned to Lenox in 1930 and stayed until 1939, where he painted flowers. Although not as famous as Wiliam, many collectors prefer his wares because they are much scarcer due to his short stay at Lenox. This exact vase signed by G. Morley is pictured on page 38 of Collecting American Belleek by Loman and Petula Eng. It was valued between $650-$850 at the time of publication in 2003.

The vase stands 10.25" high and 9" in diameter at the mouth. The vase has a one inch ivory colored fluted base trimmed on the top and bottom with gold gild. Above the base is a band of creamy vanilla porcelain the cinches in and is topped by another thicker band of gold. The middle of the vase in ivory in color and slightly flared as it moves upwards. This area is fluted/ridged, as well. The top third of the vase is a wide band of creamy vanilla porcelain that Mr. Morley has hand painted with pink roses that encircle the vase. The roses are twined together by long stems dotted with thorns, and are nestled in greenery with splashes of yellow leaves. As if framing a picture, George Morley outlines this band with more gold trim. One can see from the pictures why his simple elegance and clean lines are very much desired.

The vase is classic. It is a timeless testament to the art of hand painted china. It is in pristine condition. This is a rare find signed by a sought after artist. It will only increase in rarity and value. There are no issues whatsoever to note. There is no paint loss. There is no flicks, flakes, chips, flea bites, cracks, chips, hairlines, or spiders.

If you are a collector of Lenox, Belleek or Trenton pottery items, this is indeed a rare piece of history!
