Opulent 19th C. large ormolu curved galbé glass display box / casket / coffret / vitrine with Empire motifs, dating from the Napoleon III period. A wonderful curvy confection of bevelled and galbé glass panels, gilt metal, red velvet back panel and padded cushion studded with little brass floral pins , adorned with the most splendid Empire motifs ! The casket has taken on a wonderful faded grandeur air, with loss of gilding in places, the back panel and cushion are a little undulating and have faded and worn with the passage of time. The lid open and closes correctly but is a little out of kilter with the box when closed. It may have once had a motif under the clasp . The glass is in very good condition with no cracks or chips, with only a little flaw on the front (please see last photo ). An opulent and rare display casket for crowns , hearts, bridal wax wedding finery , mignonettes , jewelry etc..... ! Please note that the ormolu ex voto hearts in the first photo are or display purposes only and do not form part of this sale, they are listed separately in my Ruby Lane shop. Kindly study the photos as they form part of the description.
