Exquisite 19th C. French embroidered wedding handkerchief / hanky lace
Here we have the most exquisite 19th C. French, very large hand embroidered and Valencienne bobbin lace bridal wedding heirloom handkerchief / hanky. A wonderful confection of ethereal " linon", hand embroidered with the most delicate floral and foliage motifs, executed using the most minute stitches with the greatest finesse. It is edged with a gathered flounce of valencienne bobbin lace. I have left the hanky just as I discovered it and have not attempted to clean it. It does have a few light storage marks and a faint odor not surprising really considering it's delicate nature and age. I can see 2 small areas of damage( please see last 2 photos )and the odd imperfection in the weave. A phenomenal amount of work has gone into making this exquisite heirloom wedding treasure.......a real feast for the eyes ! It would look wonderful framed or carefully stored away and pulled out once in a while to marvel at the splendid work.
