Splendid flounce of scalloped edged 19th C.French BAYEUX Normandy black hand made Chantilly bobbin lace with delicious floral motifs , dating from the Napoleon III period. The flounce is unused and in good strong condition save for the odd imperfection,a few tiny broken threads here and there and a small area of damage , please see last photo. The flounce feels a little starched but should soften up with use. It must have taken many hours to make and today machine laces do not compare with the quality of 19th century hand made laces. It measures 130 inches long and 13 1/2 inches wide. This flounce would make some very "chic" and striking cafe style curtains for a boudoir, just sew on a few vintage brass curtain rings and you will be the envy of your friends. It would be just perfect for light and lamp shades , for Haute Couture clothing and many other projects besides............!
