Fantastic antique secretaire chest dating back to the late Georgian period of C.1800.
This beautiful piece of antique furniture is constructed from solid mahogany which has developed a wonderful aged patina.
At first glance it looks like a large chest of drawers. There are 4 drawers to the front featuring brass handles with a shield, star and anchor design. However, the top drawer opens and the front falls down to create a felt top writing table and reveal numerous cubbies and small drawers.
As mentioned before, the patina on this piece is stunning and the side and front top is accented with lighter colored lines of inlay.
The whole thing stands on chunky bracket feet and it is in solid, sturdy condition.
Like most antiques of this age, this piece does have it's flaws. There is wear and damage to some of the handles but they are firmly attached and function well. The top looks like it may have undergone some restoration at some point as the back half is finished in a darker color than the front. There is a split to the right side and some minor splitting to the top. There is also minor age appropriate wear throughout. All of this is shown in the pictures and as you can see it only adds to the character and charm of the piece.
Over all this is a magnificent piece of Georgian furniture which is ready to grace any home and be cherished once more.
