Antique oak bureau desk, found at a local North Carolina estate, dates back to the turn of the 20th century C.1900.
What a very pretty piece of furniture this is. It is hand made from solid oak which had developed a wonderful aged golden oak patina with lots of beautiful tiger oak.
The slant front drops down to create a writing table and reveal numerous cubbies and small drawers. The writing table is supported by chains which are very secure. There are some holes next to the screws which connect the chains to the top, which is probably where they were previously attached.
There is one large drawer and 2 small drawers to the front with large white porcelain knobs which are not original but suit the piece well.
The whole thing stands on 4 elongated cabriolet legs. The right back leg has suffered a crack and has been repaired at some point in its past. The repair is still very strong and does not effect the stability and functionality of the piece.
There is some very minor splitting to the side panels due to climate change causing movement in the wood and there are some small black marks on top. All of this is shown in the pictures and is only to be expected in a piece this old. It is in solid, sturdy condition.
This is a wonderful piece of American antique furniture which would add warmth and a touch of country cottage charm just about anywhere in any home.
