Antique English Mahogany and Brass Coal Scuttle. FREE SHIPPING!*
Coal boxes like this would have sat next to the fire and used to store spare chunks of coal to keep the fire going on long, cold winter nights.
This particular one features simple hand carved channeling on the slant front lid and top. The lid lifts up to reveal the coal storage space with original removable tin liner which is often missing.
There is a brass arts and crafts style handle on top making it easier to carry and refill from the large coal bunker outside and a simple brass knob on the lid. The back also still retains the original scoop holder handle.
As you can see from the pictures it has been well used and has a lot of character. There is some heavy wear all over and the tin liner has had some old repairs due to deterioration. The brass on the handle and knob is well worn.
This wonderful coal scuttle obviously has a lot of stories to tell with it's authentic wear and patina. It is in solid, sturdy condition and ready to add that extra historical charm to any ones hearth.
Dimensions: width 13 3/4", depth 17 1/4", total height 13 3/4".
