Late Victorian etagere with mirror top and display, china cabinet. This very unusual piece was imported from England and dates back to the late 1800's.
This would make a great entry way piece, hall stand, sideboard or dresser.
Almost everything about this piece is original including the decoratively shaped beveled mirrors, the wavy glass, and the ornate aged brass handles.
The green and gold fabric lining on the display shelf is in great condition and is not original but suits the piece well. This could also be very easily replaced to suit your decor.
There is a single drawer to the front with intricate hand carving and a small candle sconce above each of the side mirrors.
There are 2 scalloped edge display shelves on each side of the display cabinet and the whole thing stands on four cabriolet legs with hand carving to the front two.
Sitting on top is a beautifully carved crown and there is also applied carved trim accenting the sides of the side mirrors and the bottom of the center mirror. Some of this trim is missing but as you can see in the pictures it is hardly noticeable and could easily be replaced by a restorer.
All of the mirrors are in great condition with only a small amount of wear and spots which do not effect their functionality. The glass on the cabinet is in great shape with no cracks.
It is made of mahogany and has an ebonized finish. This means it has a black painted finish to make it look like ebony which was very popular at the time. The finish on this piece is all original and in remarkable condition for it's age with only wear from use.
This is a tall, narrow piece which is meant to stand against a wall. When free standing, this piece is sturdy with only a small amount of movement, however, when it is against a wall it is very sturdy and doesn't move at all.
A very rare piece which, over all, is in sound solid condition with only age appropriate flaws.
