CHANEL Novelty Co. 1940's Pave Rhinestone Turkey Pin - Rare Find!
Extremely rare 1941 CHANEL huge, dimensional turkey pin. Features detailed textured chest, open work plumage and pave rhinestone encrusted head, neck, and wing. Extremely weighty piece. The pave head/neck and wing are attached with riveted construction. Gold-plated base metal.
Measures 3" by 3".
Signed CHANEL in script.
Excellent vintage condition. One rhinestone on the turkey's wing is a bit more yellow than the rest, and could possibly be a replacement.
These pieces were signed Chanel in script (for Chanel Novelty Co.) and produced ONLY in the spring of 1941. Production was halted when Coco Chanel sued over the use of her name and won. The Chanel company then changed their name to Reinad Novelty Co., Inc. This brooch has an almost mythical standing in the world of costume jewelry and is nearly impossible to find. Rated 5 out of 5 stars for rarity in Brunialti's "American Costume Jewelry, Art & Industry, Volume 1", page 79. Also referenced in Marcia "Sparkles" Brown's "Signed Beauties of Costume Jewelry" on page 66.
An extremely rare piece of vintage costume jewelry fit for an advanced collector!
