Chinatown Grant St watercolor painting by Mark Luca CA artist

Chinatown Grant St watercolor painting by Mark Luca

Offered is a painting by Mark Luca, a Berkeley artist and U.C. Berkeley professor. Mostly known for his printmaking, he was a prolific but not well recognized artist. This is a watercolor done on wet paper of the Grant Street entrance gates to Chinatown. It is powerful, strong and leaves the viewer to fill in the bustling excitement of the famous area in downtown S.F..

Mark Luca was born in 1918 and died recently in 2005. He co-authored a book on art instruction and recorded faces and scenes of the Bay Area.

This painting is framed and measures approximately 43" high by 33" wide. The measurement of the painting is about 22" by 33".

Luca's use of black outline is remarkably successful and emphasizes the entrance gates which are red with the large fu dogs. Some of his water colors are signed, and others were not. This is not signed but will come with authentication if desired. Just to note, it has an acid free mat and backing.
