I am selling a pair of super rare portieux candlesticks- figures only. The sockets are not available. The candlesticks are called Saison Femme and Saison Homme. They are Portieux #'s 1861 and 1862. As you can see the candle sockets were never attached. Don't know how they left the factory this way - perhaps one of the workers took them home. They would either have had the sockets or the oil lamp tops. My guess they were meant to be attached to the oil lamp tops but who knows. Both candlesticks are signed Portieux. The heights of these candlesticks without the sockets are a little under 8 inches.
Also, please note that Portieux made three colors in blue, a light blue, a medium blue and a dark blue. The light blue is called celeste and is also scarce. These bases for the candlesticks are celeste blue.
These candlesticks have never been shown in opaline glass in any books about French glass candlesticks that I have seen. If anyone has seen them in any books, let me know. After doing much research I found a picture of the Saison Femme in the Magazine Hobbies and this was in November of 1946. The Saison Femme candlesticks were in clear glass. The saison homme candlestick I have never seen in clear or opaque. If you would like to see a picture of the clear season femme candlestick please email me and I will send you a picture.
These candlesticks are for the advance collector. The sockets were attached separately and not part of the original press glass mold. I cannot state how rare these candlesticks base are - even without the sockets.
I have priced these accordingly and if they had sockets they would be priced at least double the amount I am asking. Any questions, please email me. I would like to hear from anyone who collects figural glass candlesticks from Portieux/Vallerysthal especially if you have seen one of these candlesticks.
