This is a rare find. A Moser Biscuit Barrel in opaline glass and decorated with wildlife, of egrets, flowers, leaves, trees, etc. When I saw this item it just amazed me on how unusual to find an opaline biscuit barrel decorated with high relief decorations.. The coloring also is unusual, it is a cross between a medium tan coloring with a hint of pink coloring.
Please note: High relief decoration on glass is obtained by applying multiple layers of enamel to the glass. This type of decoration was employed by Moser at Meistersdorf and one of the most sort after high relief decorated Moser glassware feature animals and birds in a naturalistic setting.
The barrel with the handle in an upright position stands about 10 inches tall - when the handle is down about 6 inches. The barrel is almost 5 inches wide. The silverplate on the base is marked with a #22. Dont know what this means so if anyone knows what this stands for let me know.
The person that I purchased this from has misplaced the silverplate top and hopefully it will be found. For now, there is no silverplate top and is being sold without a top. With or without a top this item is rare. Price reflects missing top.
The silverplate is in great condition and the opaline glass is in great condition. No chips, cracks, repairs etc.
Any questions, please email me.
