Art Deco 1920s Shawl Silk Pane Velvet Hand Painted

This lovely art deco piano shawl is from the 1920s. It is in the shape of a long rectangle and is made of luxurious silk pane velvet which has been hand painted with gilt and mat paints. The back of the shawl is lined in a plain peach colored pure silk. This magnificent art deco piano shawl has a very long and thick silk fringe. The fringe is made of two-tone colors of light peach and gold. The fringe highlights the iridescence of the silk velvet in the body of the shawl. The hand painting depicts large flowers, leaves and scrolls. Each leaf, flower, and scroll is outlined in thick gold paint. Considering the age of the shawl, it is in excellent vintage condition. There are a few cracks in the paint, with some of the fabric lifting at the cracks, but there are no major rips, holes or tears. I have photographed these cracks so you can see what I am describing. They are in a few places outlining the flowers and leaves. There is no missing fringe, and there are only very tiny age color spots in just a few tiny little areas. There is one spot on the back of the shawl which measures approximately 1/2 inch in length and 1/4 inch wide which is a dark age spot. That is the worst flaw. The rest of the shawl is in amazingly good condition. The damage report makes it sound much worse than it is, but I want to point out any and all flaws. I have not had this shawl dry cleaned or hand laundered. It is being offered in "as found" condition which is disclosed above. This shawl presents just beautifully. It is gorgeous on any couch or piano or can even be worn to that special event.

The shawl is heavy and quite large. It measures 58 inches long and 35 inches deep. These measurements exclude the fringe. The fringe measures 18 inches long and is very thick. With the fringe, the shawl measures 76 inches long and 53 inches deep or wide.
