Archaeological findings exerted an important influence on jewelry designs of the 1861-89 period and later. We are pleased to offer this unique, very detailed Victorian brooch for sale. I believe the three snakes are bronze, they coil around three cabochons with bezel settings. Each snake is highly detailed with cross hatched scales and even the face of the snakes are complete with detailed eyes etc. The back of the brooch is Japanned. The brooch measures 2 1/8" long and 3/4" wide. I believe the cabochons are glass, they are robin's egg blue in color. The long pinback has a locking C closure. The pin is in very good condition with the exception of the center section. The top edge possibly has been dented in, notice in the pictures. This does not distract from the uniqueness of this extraordinary pin. Please email us with any questions. Thank you for looking!
