Hobe made a series of fabulous sterling silver floral ribbon brooches, mostly in the 1940's - many with stones. this brooch is ornate and wonderful. Many, as this brooch, are design patented.
It is all sterling silver, with a 14K gold wash (vermeil) over the flowers and leaves which adorn the ribbon. The sterling flower at the end of each piece of ribbon are left in sterling. There are three large stones, in simulated sapphire, amethyst and peridot glass rhinestones. I love how Hobe twists the ribbons and bows in realist shapes - really wonderful. To me, the overall look of the brooch is more gold than silver. Quite ornate version of this style.
The brooch, which has a locking clasp, is signed Hobe 1/20th 14K on Sterling Design Pat'd. The brooch measures just shy of 3" by 2". The weight of the brooch is 35.6 grams. Lovely vintage condition.
