Antique Etching in Embossed Leather Frame by Katerina Roscamf. Fishermen Cottages, Holstein, Germany. Very old.

This limited edition etching by Katerina Roscamf is titled, No.105, Fischerhutten Holstein. (Fisherman cottages/huts in Holstein, Germany.) It is framed in an embossed leather frame which is totally sealed at the back. This is the first time I have ever seen a leather frame of this nature.

The etching shows three, thatched, old, beam and stucco, buildings by a lake. The mood is dark with a threatening sky and black water, both shadowing the buildings. With frame it measures 11 ½” by 10 1/8”.

This is a very impressive work! With study it keeps revealing more and more detail and questions.

Condition: the leather frame is worn and rubbed at the corners and the sealed back, which appears to be of wood, has separated from the frame in places. The glass has some faint spotting on the print side in one area, impossible to see except when examined very closely. The print appears unmarked and in perfect condition, though the paper has now a sepia tone. The whole effect is of great age, but I have been unable to date it. A few more details of provenance are available to the buyer.
