This 14" in diameter , heavy, silverplated tray comes from Birks, the Tiffany's of Canada. It is hallmarked Marlboro plate, E. P. Copper, BM mounts, Canada, 1750. Marlboro plate is top quality plate! It sits on 3 stepped, balled feet and the edge rises approx. 1" off the table. The edge is deeply gadrooned.
The centre is engraved with deep cut florals and swirls in a 3 ½" wide band surrounded by another plain band. It is engraved with 6 names in cursive script in the plain center of the tray (immediate new friends!). These will not interfere with the quality of your presentation, because a tiny cloth would cover them or 2 wineglasses.
This tray would make a beautiful addition to your holiday presentations. Use it for serving drinks or it is large enough to hold a tea service. These retail for over $400, but not at Books and Bygones.
Condition: Mint! There are no flaws on this tray, no dings or dints. There are a few faint scratches barely visible from polishing which add to the patina. Please view all photos which give an accurate description of the condition and quality. Ask me about the Birks sterling napkin rings and Adrienne Vittadini scarf, also available at Books and Bygones, which appear in the last photo. 110
