This was the 11th Gilbert and Sullivan opera and was first performed at the Savoy Theatre, London, on 3 October 1888. Gilbert's lyrics and Sullivan's music are as fresh today as when first performed. In this facsimile reprint of the 1929 edition, the lyrics are accompanied by color illustrations by Russell Flint, President of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolor, whose work is very collectible today.
