Caroline's Jewelry with a Past is offering a mid Victorian brown and gold embossed leather jewelry box, circa 1870. The jewelry box has a brass metal heart shaped escutcheon on the front with original lock and hinges, all plated. The key is missing. The interior is maroon silk and velvet. The piece has a removable tray and drawer. The tray has four compartments, one for rings, a bracelet or pocket watch and two rectangular sections. The front drops down and there is a tray with a small Greek style handle. There is wear to the brown leather and gold embossing which edges the box. The silk has stretch tears as shown. The box measures measures 8" wide X 5" deep X 3-1/2" high (maximum dimensions). The top edges are beveled. The box is wood with a leather covering. There is a paper picture of four Victorian ladies c. 1840 on the top inside.
