A black leopard with faint gray makings appears on this vintage Chinese gilded sterling pin/pendant. The big cat's coloring was made with dark enamel that appears black at a distance and very dark blue up close. Slightly lighter enamel appears in the cloisonné spots and along the backs of his legs for depth. A small amount of dark yellow enamel was used as final accents.
The back of the jewel has a standard pin back mechanism and a bail for a chain or neck ring. There are also 2 decorative holes on the back for venting hot air during the making of the piece.

Markings: the bail is stamped Silver. It has been tested and it is sterling.
Excellent condition with minor fading to the gold wash. There is a hint of a tiny sheared chip in the enamel that does not go down to the metal underneath. This is so minor that I still consider the condition to be excellent. Also, despite the fine thin legs and tail, there are no cracks. That is quite surprising!
