This is a 9ct solid gold medal from the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes, Grand Lodge of England. The medal is enameled in red, white and blue. It hangs from a dark blue ribbon that is topped with a pair of plated buffalo horns that are draped with an enameled dark blue banner that reads Primo. At the bottom of the ribbon is plated plaque with the name Sir Alex Brown 2757.
The back of the medal is engraved – Presented to Bro. J.M. Moore C.P. by the Sir Alex Brown Lodge 2757 For Services Rendered June 7th 1921.
The front and the back of the medal are hallmarked with the number 375 which represents the 9K gold content. In addition are the English hallmarks for Birmingham and the date letter V. According to the Birmingham Assay Office website, the date letter dates the actual creation of the medal to 1920. The loose jump ring is also hallmarked as 9ct.
The entire item measures 5-1/8" x 1-3/4" wide. The medal and attached loose 9ct gold jump ring measures 2-1/8" x 1-3/16".
Condition: the O in "philanthropy" is not enameled; nothing has been polished, very minor wear. The red enamel on the crown is in perfect condition despite looking odd in my photos.
