Erté Sophistication St. II
This particular necklace is known as "Sophistication" St. II. Erté based this design on a 1925 costume for George White's Scandals, which was later recreated as the serigraph "Arctic Sea". It is set in 14 Karat yellow and white gold along with Sterling Silver. Her delicately carved face is Mother of Pearl which is surrounded by countless Diamonds and 14 Karat yellow gold rondeles. This particular piece of "wearable art" is unique in the sense that the center is a detachable brooch and the two remaining parts can be reassembled as another necklace. All the stones are securely pave set or welded.
The brooch is 3 ½" long, not including the gold and Diamond tassels. The necklace has a combined length of 16". This "Sophistication" is numbered 132/250, stamped Sterling & 14K, CFA, and Erté is engraved in the Mother of Pearl carved face. The necklace came from a private collection and was meticulously cared for, leaving it in excellent vintage condition. Necklaces from this series retail for as much as $15,000 to $8,000, however, this particular piece is priced to sell. This necklace is a must have for any Erté jewelry collector!
