Sewing Box Hand Carved Lid and Pin Cushion Beadwork ca. 1920
This is a very interesting sewing box. I found it in Switzerland and bought it for my customers because it is charming!
The sewing box is made about 1920. It has a pleasant square shape with fine openings on all sides, all protected by glass. Three sides show an emerald green silk paper lining. The front shows a wonderful old beadwork with chenille embroidery depicting an old castle and flowers.
The lid is decorated with hand carved and painted Edelweiss flowers. In the middle a beautiful pin cushion made of burgundy red velvet.
Inside clean lined with paper with beautiful magnolia motif. I think this is an Italian paper, I know this fine lining papers from my trips to Italy. The work seems to be done recently.
The red tassel is new and only for show, it is fixed to the body of the box and not to the lid.
The bottom shows some holes, I suppose the box was fixed on a table.
The condition is very good; there are some surface scratches. The box seems to be handmade, there are some asymmetries to the lid, not annoying. Measurements: 7.6 x 7.6 inches, 5 inches in height.
