19C Rare Lorgnette Tortoise Handle w. 50" Woven Hair Chain Think about me!

This very fine lady's lorgnette has an elegant shape and amazing details. The handle is made of veritable tortoise shell and framed in a lovely fine golden gilded brass work with minuscule pearls on the edges.

The handle ends in a small ring trough which a woven hair chain is pulled. The chain has three different woven patterns and small brass rings. The clasp is made of filled gold and decorated with fine blue enamel motifs. The clasp has a hexagonal shape, on three sides the inscription "Pensez A Moi" = "Think About Me".

Superb condition, no chip or repair. The spring works very well. Concave lenses. Small part of the chain (ca. 6 cm) shows some wear.

Length: 5 inches, diameter of the glasses: 1.6 inches. The chain has a length of 50 inches!

This kind of spectacles was usually used as a piece of jewelry, rather than to enhance vision.
