Hugo Brehme Sepia Photograph Signed-Popocatepetl
Original signed Hugo Brehme sepia photograph of Popocatepetl is framed under glass and features Mexico's second highest mountain, an active volcano, and stands 17,802' tall and is located 45 miles south of Mexico City. Trees to the foreground frame the snow covered mountain with the plains peeking through the branches of the trees. Hugo Brehme, 1882-1954, was a German immigrant to Mexico who chronicled the beauty of Mexico and became the most famous photographer of his era, along side of Frida Kahlo's father, to share images of Mexico to the world, mostly via postcards. This original photograph is in excellent condition with no issues. I see in one of my photographs an artifice, and is only a reflection of the light and camera. Excellent, excellent condition. Titled to the bottom left hand side is Popocatepetl, and to the right side is the signature Hugo Brehme, and under that appears to be his shop address, 17 Ex 1 Co- something, DF. Image measures 13 1/2" x 10 1/2", and overall in frame with signed matte is 18 3/8" x 13 5/8". To the back is a red stamp mark for a long ago framing business in Little Rock, Arkansas. Would date this to the early 1920's when he was doing his Sepias and are chronicled in a new book by Susan Toomey Frost, titled "Timeless Mexico". Powerful image of one of Mexico's most active volcanos by the man who really put Mexico on the map.
