Pulp Halloween Devil Jack-O-Lantern Excellent USA FN Burt Company 1930s
Here for your consideration is this wonderful paper mache Devil Head Jack O' Lantern. This is made of composition "egg crate" molded paper pulp with orange paint. When you illuminate the lantern from the inside the eyes and mouth give a spooky glow. Initially these Halloween lanterns were illuminated by using a candle, and quite a few were destroyed. A battery operated light can be safely used in lieu of a candle. These lanterns are becoming rarer today; they were made for Halloween and usually were disposed of soon thereafter. Those that remain were roughed up by child's play or just in storage. This lantern is in excellent vintage condition with paint loss and small rubs consistent with its age. The insert are original but it appears that one devil's eye insert may have been repaired. This type lantern is American made in the USA in the 1930s by the FN Burt Company. It is a larger size approximately 6 and ½ inches high. You can view another copy of this Halloween collectable on page 37 of Mark Ledenbach's 2nd Edition Vintage Halloween Collectables Identification and Price Guide. This would make a wonderful addition to any Halloween Collector's collection or a wonderful gift for someone special. Here is your opportunity to own this piece of Halloween history.
