Exquisite Set of Gorham Sterling Silver Cherub Design Dessert or Fruit Knives Circa 1880

This absolutely gorgeous set of eleven hallmarked *Gorham Mfg. Co. dessert or fruit knives Circa 1888, is one that would look spectacular at any or every table setting. The fabulously ornate set of heavy sterling silver has exquisite cherub designs on one side of the handle and incredibly beautiful scrolled initials on the other. These extremely difficult-to-find knife set is in very good antique condition, with only a few of the knives having a bit of wear from use on the tips. They measure about 7 1/4 inches long.

*Gorham silver was founded in Providence, R.I. in the year 1831 by Jabez Gorham, a master craftsman, in partnership with Henry L. Webster. During the heyday of American silver manufacturing - 1850-1940, Gorham was highly influential. The White House has used Gorham silver during many administrations, and Mary Todd Lincoln purchased an impressive tea and flatware service for use in the White House in 1859. Gorham was commissioned to manufacture trophies for the America's cup for yachting, the Davis Cup for tennis and the Borg-Warner trophy for the Indianapolis 500.
