Vintage Gutta-percha and Marchasite Bar Pin on Silver
This dramatic black and silver bar pin from the 1920's is made from marchasite and gutta-percha. (Gutta-percha is a genus of tropical trees native to Southeast Asia. The same term is used to refer to an inelastic natural latex produced from the sap of these trees). It measures 2 1/2" long x more than 1/4" wide and is backed in silver with a "C" curve closure. This collector's item is in great antique condition and would look pretty fabulous on a jacket, hat or scarf. Most marcasite pins are not usually combined with gutta-percha, which makes this a pretty unusual piece.
Naturally eco-friendly and green, antiques are the ultimate in helping the environment.
