This beautifully-inscribed iridescent oval brooch has three gold-leafed initials, which look more like an elaborate Victorian design than letters. There is a large gold "M" in the center and a "J" and "V" on either side--who knows and who cares--it's fabulous! The pin, which is in very good antique condition, measures 2" long x 1 1 /2" wide and is backed on solid brass with a "C" curve closure and a wide gold leaf border as well. It was made during a fashion trend around the turn of the century, and young girls would start with a plain white blank and hand paint initials, flowers, designs and silhouettes for their bff's and sisters.
