This colorful spring-like oval porcelain turn-of-the-century brooch has been beautifully hand-painted with a deep-orange/rust tulip right in the center, and light and dark shades of green leaves surrounding it on both sides and touches of gold-leafing running through. Actually, this piece could be a fall pin as well, its colors are so magnificent . It is outlined in gold leaf throughout, with slight wear on the edges, and has a soft blue/purple background. The pin is in very good antique condition and measures 1 1/2 inches wide x 2 inches in length. The back has a hand-made brass frame with a "C" pin closure, which was typical of much of the jewelry of that period.
The fashion trend in those days (1880's-1900) was for young girls to paint their own jewelry, and this piece is just one in a collection that I have had stashed away for more than 30 years in a trunk. Check out the rest of the porcelain pin collection on Nancy's Fancy.
