University of Saskatchewan Pottery Ashtray
Offered here is this rare student piece of pottery celebrating the 50th anniversary of the University of Saskatchewan in 1959. The yellowish clay is almost certainly bentonite. This may have been from an Alberta company, Medicine Hat Brick and Tile or possibly Medalta. The ashtray is in the shape of a shield with mold formed lettering as well as the wheat sheaves associated with the U of S. The glaze used is an excellent high gloss mottled green with brown. Beautifully done and extremely hard to find. Measures 5 1/2" X 5 1/2".
There are no chips, cracks, fleabites or obvious signs of use. This looks like it was given to attendees of the golden jubilee and this one was only ever displayed.
