Offered for sale: High decorative low grade silver chatelaine decorated with a cherub in the middle and a winged Griffin on each side of the cherub.
The chatelaine measures 2 inches by 2 1/4 inches. The surface of the chatelaine is covered in multi layer decorative silver work. In the center is a winged cherub perched above the background of the chatelaine. The 2 griffins , one on each side of the cherub, are also mounted a layer above the background of the chatelaine. The background of the chatelaine is a multi layer lattice work of flower, leaves, berries and vines. The openwork on the chatelaine allows the material in back of it to be seen.
The chatelaine itself is low grade silver. The chains which were added at a later time are marked 'Sterling' on the swivel at the bottom of each chain and are 6 inches in length. The chatelaine has a large clip on the back which allows it to be attached over a belt or a waist band. The chatelaine is circa 1890s made somewhere on the European continent.
