Offered for sale: Wonderful vermeil malachite scarab brooch with wings of Plique a Jour and Champleve enamel.
The brooch is a rainbow of colors with the body in dark green malachite and the wings in shades of green and rose. First comes the Champleve enamelling which is a bright yellow almost an iridescent yellow with a vermeil backing. The Champleve enamel is used to decorate the top area of the wings. Around the bottom edges of the wings is the Plique a Jour enamel which is a wonderful see through enamel similar in appearance to stained glass in shades of green and rose.
The brooch measures almost 3 inches by 1 inch at it widest. The metal is vermeil or gold over 800 silver. The silver mark can be seen near where the pin joins the back of the brooch. The clasp is a C-type clasp. The brooch has a safety chain which is newer than the brooch which on one end is secured to the brooch and on the other end is a safety pin which can be used to secure the brooch to what ever garment is being worn. This brooch comes from the 1890's time frame.
Note:Use the 'zoom mode' to get the best look at the brooch. There are no problems with the brooch except for some metal wear on the gold.
