Offered for sale:1920s Egyptian revival pin/pendant of the sphinx in 800 silver and brilliant enamel.
This pin/pendant measures 1 inch by 1 inch and is made of 800 silver as is marked on the back of the pin. The body of the sphinx as well as the snake depicted above the head of the sphinx have an oxidized silver finish. The wings and headdress have been covered in a rainbow of white, light blue, cobalt blue and deep red enamel. Enamel on metal in this case silver is one of the more difficult forms of enameling. The blue and white enamel are in excellent condition while the red enamel shows some signs of wear.
The piece was originally a pin with C style clasp. I have added a pendant converter which slides on over the pin and which can be removed easily at any time.
