Late Victorian Drop Style Vermeil Earrings

These wonderful earrings from 1900 are made of vermeil where in this case vermeil means gold over 800 silver. The 800 mark can be found on the back of the drop portion of the earrings along with what looks like the maker's mark. The earrings have a drop of 2 inches. The decoration on the drop portion of the earring is a repousse design of scallops and beads with a black enamel plaque in the center which is surrounded by twisted wire decoration.

The screwback portion of the earrings are also vermeil oval in form with a twisted wire decoration. The screwbacks have what looks like a 833 silver hallmark. The earrings are hollow which means they are easy on the ears. The earrings are in excellent vintage condition.
