Offered for sale: Scottish Broach circular with 2 concentric circles; the smaller circle with the cross is raised above the larger circle.
This broach is composed of 2 distinct areas; the bottom circle which has a 1 inch inside diameter and an outside diameter of 1 3/8 inches. The bottom circle is a tube shape with alternating areas of engraved silver with areas of bezel set agate. The pin and clasp are on the back of the outside circle.
The inside circle which has a diameter of 1 inch on the outside and 3/4 of an inch on the inside. The inside circle sits 3/8 of an inch above the bottom larger circle. A St Andrew's cross with bezel set agate is in the middle of the smaller circle.
The silver on both circular areas of the broach is highly embossed. The agate is bezel set. Some of the agates in the bottom circle of the broach have been replaced. The broach has a c -clasp with the longer length of pin which is common to Victorian jewelry. There are no marks but the silver has been tested. The broach is Victorian from the 1860s to 1870s time frame.
