Offered for sale: 3 inch by 2 inch rectangular shape Art Nouveau Sash Broach.
The broach is made up of 2 wires in the form of vines forming 2 rectangles one inside the other with the area between the wires left open. Applied on top of the 'vines' are grape clusters and leaves on the right and left sides of the broach. The top and bottom edges are decorated with applied leaf decoration. Sitting in the middle of the broach is a butterfly done in a filigree design. Near the head of the butterfly is an oval bezel set purple glass stone. The broach has a very 3 dimensional look because of the way the decorations are layered one on top of the other. The entire broach is open back with the butterfly, grapes, and leaves secured to the 'vines' which run around the outside edge of the broach.
The metal is gold over brass. Some of the gold has started to wear off and the brass color shows through. The metal could be polished to a higher shine if so desired. The clasp is a safety clasp used in the late1890s to the early 1920s. The pin is a different color than the remainder of the broach. The broach comes from the Late Victorian, Art Nouveau time frame. The broach is in excellent vintage condition.
