Offered for sale:Enamel on metal 830 silver pin with portrait of a Swiss girl in a regional Swiss costume.
It was the custom of the Victorian traveler doing the 'Grand Tour' of Europe to bring home jewelry with the famed Swiss enamel on metal portraits and scenery to remember their trip. This pin which is 830 Silver and has a diameter of 7/8 of an inch is the portrait of a young Swiss girl in a regional costume.
The pin is enamel on metal one of the hardest techniques to master. Use the closeup mode to see the exquisite detail of the face and the costume. This pin is from the 1880s time frame. It is marked '830' for 830 Silver on the back. The clasp is the standard Victorian C-clasp with the extra long pin.
I am offering this pin a a superb prices because a portion of the background enamel has a small chip in it. Fortunately only the background of the pin is affected. The chip is on the left side right where the white and green enamel over her left shoulder comes together. Be sure and use the expanded picture mode to get a close look. It is a little difficult to see unless the light is just right. I do not think it ever would be noticed if the pin was being worn.
