1950s Sandcast Cuff Bracelet with Kingman Turquoise
Wonderful large bracelet. At its widest point ,the bracelet is 2 inches wide in the center and tapers to 5/8 inches on ends. The bracelet is Sterling Silver. There are no metal marks but it tests as Sterling. The pieces of silver which makeup the frame of the bracelet are rounded on one side and flat on the other. The wires are 5mm wide and a depth of 4.5mm. The bracelet weights 79 grams.
The bracelet has cut out design shape which is textured on the back with marks from the sand mold. In the center the oval shape of the bracelet measures 2 inches by 2.5 inches. There a piece of Kingman turquoise (22.5 by 19mm )bezel set in the modified shadowbox setting which covers the 'cross' of silver which is in the center of the top of the bracelet. In the center of the shadowbox is a bezel set piece of untreated Kingman turquoise surrounded by twisted wire decoration. The edges of the shadowbox are scalloped. (Note: The Kingman turquoise because it has not been stabilized has started to get a green cast from the oils of the fingers. This normal for untreated turquoise.) The tool marks used formed when the bracelet was being made, testify that the bracelet is handmade.
The bracelet measures 5 1/2 inches without the opening. The opening is a little less than 1 1/2 inches. My wrist measures 6 1/2 inches. The bracelet fits my wrist with a little up-down sliding . Because the bracelet has such an open framework, a chain could be threaded between the 2 ends of the bracelet forming a cuff bracelet. If you would like me to add this type of safety chain when you place the order.
