Sun and Sea in an Antique Blue Zircon and Diamond Ring
Poor Blue Zircon has gotten a bad rap. Whoever came up with the word 'Ziconia' really owes the poor Blue Zircon an apology. A natural stone with the most amazing color, the best Zircons, like this one, are so bright and blue that you can almost feel the sea breeze against your skin when you look into them. The crystal structure of Zircons causes them to be doubly refractive, which gives them the most amazing sparkle. Looking into a blue Zircon is like watching sunlight bounce off a crystal blue ocean.
This Zircon is set in silver and surrounded by 10 fantastic cushion cut Old European diamonds. The Zircon is a bright light blue in color and measures 7 mm across and 4.3 mm deep, weighing approximately 1.8 carats. The pillowy old cut diamonds add up to about 1.50 carats total, and work hard to steal the show. The ring is a size 7 and could be sized by a careful professional, as Zircons cannot be heated or they will loose their fantastic color. Hand made around 1900, this European turn of the century ring bears no marks but has been careful acid tested to verify content. It weighs 5.1 grams.
I love Zircons, I wore a ring almost just like this one as my 'something blue' on my wedding day. It's a ring I will always cherish, and every time I wear it I think of that happy day. I highly recommend it!
