A stunning foil backed garnet graces the center of this mid-Victorian memorial ring. Inscribed “G.A.S. Died 24 April 1854” the mounting is both hand-pierced and engraved in a beautiful scrolling floral motif. Though it has been resized it still retains most of its original hallmarks and is in excellent condition for a one hundred and fifty-five year old ring.
While the mark indicating gold purity has been removed the ring tests as 18k gold. It weighs 2.3 grams and is currently a size 5.5 US. It can be sized though care should be taken to preserve the remaining hallmarks. A great find whether you love memorial jewelry or just appreciate the subtle, warm glow of a beautiful garnet in a superb 1850s mounting.
